Let’s start today’s lesson….
Creativity is a Habit of Consistent Work
No one starts their creative journey without a certain amount of fear. When I feel that sense of dread, I try to make a list of what can go wrong.
It’s been more than a year I am writing but the fear is always there.
Let me spill some of my biggest fears whenever I hit publish button.
The big 5s are:
1. People are going to laugh at me.
2. Many have already done it before.
3. I am not saying anything worthy.
4. People will troll me.
5. Is it as meaningful as I thought it is.
“Before you can think out of the box, you have to start with a box”
-Twyla Tharp
We all are the creature of habits. When you develop the habit to create something, you will produce a lot of good stuff .
Start by creating a habit of doing something everyday. No matter how small it is.
May be start with writing 100 words everyday or shooting 10 seconds worth content.
Don't Wait to Get Inspired
Don’t wait for some “aha” moment to spark your creativity.
Your every action is an inspiration in its own way.
Below tips can help you to work on your creative muscles.
#1 Set up some time every day to work on your craft.
Just like you do with any other important activity.
If you show up at the same time every day and do the same thing, you won’t have to rely on inspiration. Instead, you’ll develop a habit.
Action leads to inspiration. If you wait to be inspired before you act, you’ll be screwed.
#2 If you want to write great books, read the books of great authors.
#3 If you want to make great movies, watch films of great actors, directors, and filmmakers.
It’s hard to have original creative ideas when you’re reading the same books, listening to the same podcast, and watching the same movies as everyone else.
Diversify your interest.
“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.” ―Haruki Murakami
Lastly,
Inspiration doesn’t fuel creativity for too long. Showing up consistently and doing the work is what leads to sustainable creativity.
Create for an audience of one, and you’ll be more likely to reach an audience of millions. Make the art you want to see in the world.
What is your idea of mastery? Share in comments.
Thank you for reading. I will see you next week with yet another lesson.
Take care and have a lovely week. 🙂
