I Have No Choice But To Run Towards My Fear

Last weekend, I had a long conversation with one of my close friends.
She opened up about her job and why she never really liked working. Over the course of her 12-year career, she managed to do the bare minimum just to earn some extra income at home, ultimately deciding to quit this year.
In one way, I felt that it’s a good decision because no one should feel miserable in their career; they should find something they truly love doing.
I know it’s a general guideline on how to choose your career, but after our call, I began reassessing my own choices.
Do I have the similar courage
Do I have the same courage to do things I don’t love doing?
If I tell you, I’m afraid of everything.
Well, maybe not everything, but it often feels that way.
I’m not exactly sure where this fear originated.
Perhaps it’s rooted in my upbringing, where I was constantly reminded that I’m not as smart or talented as my siblings or cousins.
Fear is a powerful emotion that frequently acts as a barrier, preventing us from pursuing our dreams, taking risks, or embracing change. It’s a force that can keep you stagnant, trapped in your comfort zones.
“Don’t give into your fears, if you do, you won’t be able to talk to your heart.” ~Paulo Coelho
The fear
Perhaps it’s just the reality that this world can be quite terrifying for a gentle, soft-spoken, shy, introverted woman like me.
Or maybe it’s because of my zodiac sign; I’ve always felt a connection to the crab that symbolizes my zodiac sign.
Like a crab, I don’t venture far. I’m quick to retreat into my hard shell and hold my pincers out in front of me when startled.
Basically, it takes all my energy just to navigate the spaces I already know, and even the familiar can be scary for me.
But every now and then something happens and suddenly everything I know is gone.
How it likes to be someone else
Truth be told, many things terrified me, like writing online and particularly writing this one.
I often wonder what it would be like to be someone else. To have my excitement outweigh my fear.
When is the best time or the worst time to face some of your biggest fears. I don’t know the answer yet.
Part of me insists that one shouldn’t leave one’s bed until they feel totally and completely safe.
“Choose the great adventure of being brave and afraid at the exact same time”– Brené Brown
The transformative power of confronting fear
Running towards fear is not a one-time event but a continuous journey.
Each fear faced and conquered becomes a stepping stone to greater self-discovery and empowerment.
It reshapes the perspectives, enabling you to see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than as obstacles.

― Sl Jones
To wrap it up
Let’s declare that fear will not dictate the course of your lives. Instead, it becomes a source of motivation, a catalyst for growth, and a reminder of your greatest achievements.
In the words of Nelson Mandela, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
So, let’s embrace fears, run towards them, and watch as they transform from barriers into stepping stones on your journey to a more empowered and enriched life.
