#27: This is What Happened When I Wrote For 3 Years Straight
Persistence pays off
Creating on the internet is a lonely journey.
No one knows what you write and during the initial months, you don’t have as many views as you would like to see.
It can be demanding, tedious, and lonelier.
From my journey I know most people won’t even understand why you create online.
I have had my fair share of opinions from others when I told them: yeah! I write personal essays online.
The thing is not many people would understand the desire I have to create overtime and scale it up slowly alongside a demanding job.
To me, it makes total sense because it’s something you have been building from the ground up, and that will make sense only to you at least for a while before people start realizing the value of it.
During the first year of my writing journey, no one in my family and friends understood what I wrote online and why I was doing it.
Here’s a glimpse into the journey of three years of consistent effort before the spotlight finally shone.
Until we see what we are, we cannot take steps to become what we should be. ~ Charlotte P. Gilman
Writing in the Shadows
For three years, my laptop keyboard was a silent witness to my solitary dance with words.
So far I have written more than 830 articles, essays, and personal stories poured forth, not for applause or likes but for my love of the craft.
Each keystroke was a declaration of dedication to the art of expression.
These were the years of building writing skills, refining the voice, and building a strong content library, all in the quiet corridors of anonymity in my living room.
Good choices of perception translate into good choices of action.
To change your perception is to change your future action
Get Your Eyes off the Rearview Mirror
Today is the starting line for the rest of your life.
Yes, today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
The problem with the past is that we remember memories we shouldn’t, and we don’t forget what we should.
Your choices of action manifest from your choices of perception.
Experiments that led me here
If you feel yourself getting bored, you need to mix it up.
Experiment constantly so that you understand what’s working and what isn’t.
The work will still need doing but there are a million and one ways to have more fun.
