#16: 6 Tiny Self-Investments that Help Me Write Online Consistently
1000 days of writing online
Hello friend,
Welcome to this week’s edition of Part-time Creator newsletter.
I publish 12 articles on Medium every month.
I started a Substack newsletter in March 2022.
I have 2 e-books under my belt.
All these numbers didn’t happen overnight.
It’s about consistently showing up every day.
It may seem like people achieve success overnight or that a post/article goes viral, but these things don’t determine actual success.
Before my one posts went viral on LinkedIn, I had written 100 other posts consistently for 6 months.
It’s hard to stay patient and take baby steps in a creative yet competitive world to reach the top.
Consistency is key when it comes to writing online.
Here are six tiny self-investments that can help you maintain a consistent writing practice.
This post is all about what writers can do to make it big instead of daydreaming about becoming an overnight sensation.
1/ Publish Your Work Online:
When I started writing online, my biggest fear was sharing my essays online and putting them in front of unknown people.
The fear of rejection, judgment, or unwanted criticism was too much.
It’s still there, but I am getting better at dealing with it.
You can start writing on anything that interests you and find your voice along the way.
Publishing online exposes your work to a large audience that gives direct and instant feedback.
2/ Read Books Often:
Reading books is one of the best habits to unlock your creativity and generate new ideas.
Read famous books on your favorite topics. It can help you find your writing flow, improve your critical thinking, and stimulate your imagination.
There are free libraries available where you can read books for free.
3/ Time Blocking:
Set aside dedicated time slots for writing in your schedule.
Treat these time blocks as non-negotiable appointments with yourself.
By intentionally allocating time for writing, you prioritize your creative process and ensure regular output.
4/ Morning Ritual:
A morning routine that incorporates activities that fuel your creativity and set a positive tone for the day.
This could include
journaling,
reading inspiring content,
practicing mindfulness or meditation,
or engaging in physical exercise.
Starting your day with these self-investments can enhance your mental clarity and creative energy, making it easier to write consistently.
5/ Accountability Partner or Writing Group:
Find an accountability partner or join a writing group where you can share your goals, progress, and challenges.
Having someone to check in with regularly can provide motivation and encouragement to stay on track with your writing commitments.
It also creates a sense of camaraderie and community, which can be valuable in overcoming writer’s block or self-doubt.
6/ Make use of online courses and groups:
Learning and relearning are all part of a growth mindset.
Upskilling yourself is as important as creating content consistently.
You can start with free online resources, but it’s best if you can gain guidance.
You can also opt for a mentorship program from writers or creators in your niche.
Such investments are worth your time and money.
They can certainly increase your investment in over time.
